Okay. Starting over with a new attitude!

So, my last few posts have been rather negative, and for that I apologize. We're s'posed to offer ENCOURAGEMENT on this site (or so I gather), so we're starting over today! (Actually, it started Sunday night. But who's counting?)

So:

Stats:
5'6" (168 cm)
Age: 31
Sex: Female
SW: 167 lbs (76 kg)
CW: 167 lbs
GW: 146-148 lbs (66-67 kilos)

My goal is to design (or find) and follow an exercise routine and stick with it. Second: to carefully consider everything that has potential to pass through my lips when confronted with mealtime decisions. I will choose portions before starting to cook, and to prepare them so they all get done at the same time, put them on a plate, sit down, and think about what I'm eating and chew it!! If I'm in a hurry and I need a snack instead, it's gonna be FRUIT! (and maybe a small hunk of cheese or other good protein) Lastly, I hope post my stats weekly.

Here's to new beginnings!
Cheers! *clink*

yay!

I joined Jenny Craig last week 12/8. I had my first consultation and weigh in today. I drop six pounds in one week by following Jenny's 1500 calorie meal plan. The food is good (expensive, but good), and it is very low sodium so it kind of shocks your system. I am very happy. They provide a very positive atmosphere and really want to see you succeed. Six pounds in 1 week is not to shabby. After the first week they aim for you to lose 1-2 lbs. per week.

another week; another race :)

Race results posted: 1256 finishers in the Rocket City marathon at the 6 hour time limit. I was across the line as #1028 with a time of 4 hours 54 minutes. Why do I always feel a little niggling need to apologize for being a back of the pack runner?

Yes, I was creaking around a bit on sore legs post race, and today is going to be a rest day, but actually I'm feeling pretty good!

fyi: looking back over my posts,my weight has stayed in a range between 121-125 for the last two and half months. Gee, does it take marathon training for me to begin to get the hang of maintenance?

I just cross-posted this to [info]thequestionclub, but then I found this journal, so I thought I'd ask here, too:

When you first started at Sparkpeople, did you print out the weekly grocery list and stick to the meal plan they recommend to you? Or did you do something else?

Because I printed out the grocery list for this week, went to the supermarket, and proceeded to drop $50 on food for what apparently will last me the week, and this was with me *not* buying the fava beans/tilapia/trout/some random shit I couldn't find that they recommended me buying. I imagine I would have spent another $10-$15 dollars had I found everything.

I do live in Panama, so some things (stupid stuff like tortilla chips, salsa, and hummus) are much more expensive than they are in the states, but I imagine the price would end up being roughly the same, as a lot of produce here is dirt cheap.

Does Spark People really expect me to spend $200/month on food for one person?

How much do you spend on groceries for one person?

Oh.

SW - 151.8 lb
CW - 145.2
GW - 140
Status = (-)6.6

Hm. Well, I was much less vigilant this week. I completely disregarded the first goal on last week's challange/goal. In fact, it's like it wasn't even on the list :( The past two weeks caught up to me as well I guess. But +3lb from last week is a lot :-/

Also, throwing in a rant here, at the end of the semester, I no longer have a free recreation center at my disposal. However, there are 3 (Three!) gyms within walking distance from my parents' house, yet NONE of them have their prices listed online. I figure this is a tactic to get you to come in, but it's annoying. I'm an hour away people, and the internet should not be a waste of my time >.>

Moving On... )

Snow Week and Finals Week

Last Week's Goals
-make it to the gym this time...
Nope. Not the formal gym, anyway...read on.

-pack lunch for Monday, Wednesday and Thursday (not Tuesday because I'm going home for the day at 11:50a.m., and not Friday because I work...and get healthier food than I have at home, whoops)
I actually got to eat lunch with a group of admitted high school seniors, so I got to eat in the dorms again! HOORAYYY *notice the sarcasm*
Thankfully, though, my stomach didn't feel too hot afterwards because I hadn't eaten in the dorms in two years. :/
I did pack lunch on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, though.

-do my fair share of shoveling on Tuesday night (6-8 inches of snow expected...hooray...)

Actually, while everyone else spent their Wednesday morning (SNOW DAY!!!) drinking or sleeping, my roommates and I got up and shoveled the over a foot of snow that we got. After that, we played in the snow like we were five. :D :D :D

-pick the most active role in our group's act for the upcoming drag show (Friday)
(for those of you who don't know what drag is, it's where a group or one person acts, dances and lipsynches to a song while dressed as the opposite gender. My group is doing "It's Raining Men" and I'm hoping to be one of the Weather Girls!)

I was a Weather Girl. Apparently, my two friends that came had never seen me that sexy. That must be good, right? :)

-start studying for finals! they're already next week for me...eek!!
Kind of...

-try to stay somewhat healthy while Christmas shopping
Well, I didn't go shopping...

This Week (Finals Week!)
-GYM. GO. GEEZUS.
-easy on the high-sugar caffeine drinks
-try to get enough sleep (unlikely, but we'll see)
-try not to go too insane during finals
-mentally prepare myself to go home (two weeks)
-go to the store, but only for the essentials (read: cereal and milk)

Looking for Fitness Buds and Friends

Hey Everybody!!! I'm Linds and I have been with SparkPeople for about a year now, I think. :-) I've just been up and down over and over again and I would love to have some friends and supporters to help me with my fitness journey. I am actually thinking of starting a blog to log my progress. That way, I can be a help to someone else. I'm a true believer in paying it forward. :-)

I'm not begging but......well........add me please!!!

Tweaking my personal plan

Endocrinologist appointment was Tuesday morning so naturally the week before it was a fight to keep from vastly overeating - especially sweets. It's as if my brain looks to sabotage my body. I ended up doing relatively well - a 17 pound loss from the six month check in. However, even though I lost weight, my blood work still says that I will be on the same dosage of metformin. Bah.

I want to gradually get the dosage down and the only way to do that is healthy eating and weight loss and then maintaining it. I'm currently at 172 (I am throwing away the home scale that keeps claiming I'm in the low 160s, it's crap. The gym scale says the same as the doc so I'll weigh myself there) and a while ago I wanted to have the "140 by 40" goal which would be losing 32 pounds by the end of next May. The endo says no way Jose on that, that even though it would put me closer to a healthy weight for my frame, it wouldn't be good for my system to lose that much since my system fights weight loss so much. So my goal by my next birthday will be to lose between half and .75 pounds per week. I'm also going to do some research on what I should be eating to improve my health and possibly talk to a nutritionist soon.

I also found that among other things, I have a low vitamin D count - the lab says the range is supposed to be 32-100, the doc said the acceptable low end can be around 20 - I was at 18. whoopsie! So for a couple of months I'll be on a hefty dosage of D supplements and then will take it down to a still over than daily, but more reasonable supplement. In case anyone was wondering, the calcium/vitamin D adult creamy gummy supplements are frikkin' tasty. If it weren't for the fact that it might not be good to overdose on vitamins, I'd be munching them all day. lol

Ok ramble ramble about over. The holiday temptations keep mounting. By this point, I'm just shooting for not eating every temptation that people keep bringing in - which I'm doing somewhat well on. This last week I went to a holiday faculty/staff buffet and while my co-workers instantly picked up two full sized plates and loaded them high (to get their "money's worth" but honestly, it was only $10!) I had one reasonably sized plate, half of it with fresh veggies and only a cup of egg nog and a couple of the many many sweets. The co-workers wondered how I did it. Go me and a little self control. ;)

Holiday challenge check in

The plan/the performance, week leading into Hannukah )

This next week has two Christmas dinners planned, but they are both at the same time. I'm choosing which one to attend.

Week with Beethoven's birthday in it plan:
1. Food - portion control at the holiday meal. Other than that day, stay with the plan. Make it easy on myself by following the actual planned menu.

2. Exercise: Pace myself. Maintain the 30 minutes a day, and two strength workouts, but if it does the snow thing again, it's OK to substitute and adjust on the strength.

3. Continue with the great American bubble-out! Can I make it a whole week without bubbles?

Check back in here with a report next Sunday. Less than three weeks 'til New Year's 2010!

(no subject)

Hello everybody. I'm 5'10" and have a broad build (broad shoulders and all). My ideal body weight is around 189.

So, before the summer of 2009, I was around 30-40 something pounds heavier than I am now. I am currently fluxuating between 210 and 212. I lost around 25-30 pounds over the summer, and lost between 7-10 more pounds in 2-4 weeks doing some training and doing the Special K diet thingy. I was doing 5 miles on bike, and 1-2 miles alternating between running and walking each day, but because my bike is too small for me, I injured my back, so I can't do that anymore.

I've been maintaining my good health (blood pressure and such) and current weight, but I want to lose the rest of my extra weight. Since almost all of my family is big, I've never really known too much about working out or a good diet. I know some, but could learn a lot more. I'm hoping to lose 20 pounds in 2 months, but I'm guessing that that's impossible, especially since I won't be able to afford a gym membership until January.

Any advice on exercise and diet for a newbie?

P.S.-

I have decided to try out the HIIT program (Highly Intensive Interval Training), due to my interest in Track and the like. Because of the amount of rain lately, I haven't been able to go do it, but since the weather has been good today and yesterday, I'm planning on starting it tomorrow. I also do 20 sit-ups and push-ups before bed and in the morning, along with using some light 10-pound hand weights I have. I'm guessing this light stuff doesn't do much, which is why I'm doing the HIIT program (also because I don't have a bike big enough for me, and don't plan on spending the money to get a new one).

[info]veganhothead in [info]healthystart

I got a BIG wake-up call at the doctor's today

Turns out, I have gained 17 lbs. I knew I'd gained weight but I avoided stepping on the scale at home (because I'm a bloody coward).

And really, it doesn't matter that the weather this summer was crap, or that I've been enduring brain shivers coming of Effexor. And yes, I've been tired constantly for two years.

None of those things are going to help me get back in shape.

So I've made an appointment to check out a local gym with what I hear are reasonable rates on Monday. And I've give myself a timeline:

My 37th birthday is January 24. By then, I know I can drop at least ten of those pounds. Then if I get rid of the rest a month later, then I'll be rocking.

My eating habits aren't unreasonable but could use a tweak. Mostly, it's about learning to work out again.

So, this is Day 1.

I started P90x this evening to burn some stress...yeah, I kinda forgot about the stress.

45 minutes into the 1 hour 15 min workout I had to give in. My body is a bit less in shape than I thought (I knew I wasn't 'in shape' per se, but I didn't think I was THAT out of shape). Then again, I'm AWFUL at push ups and sit ups, and it was an hour of that (half chin ups, which I wasn't bad with since I'm doing the band version).

The burn and numbness feels good though, and makes me feel better about my emotional eating today (muffin for breakfast, chicken burger for lunch, donair for dinner). Hopefully tomorrow I can manage it again, despite my lack of sleep lately.

What did you do today, my fellow fitness buffs (and buffs-in-training)?

Eater's Lament

*GROAN*

Not that I have any right to complain, mind you.

Since my last post (about 2 wks ago), I've GAINED 4 pounds. (Okay, so 4 lbs might not seem like all that much to some of you, but when you're approaching 170 and you're 5'6, I'd say that's cause for concern.) I've mostly ignored the wonderful advice I received about watching more of what I eat and go about prepping marvelous food on the weekends so I don't have to worry about cooking when I get home from work. I think it's great advice - I just need to convince myself to eat well instead of grumbling and going for whatever comforts me!! Silly stress eater...

It's terrible - I have good, nutritous food at home, some even already prepared, and I would rather go out of my way to the grocery store and pick up Ben and Jerry's and a loaf of garlic bread, and eat all of both in one sitting.

I wish I truly cared more about my physical health and well being. Or maybe just figure out how not to cope with fear and stress through eating carbs. *sigh* I just can't seem to get there.

Thanks for allowing me to vent.

This week I need to......

  • Increase my cardio in an attempt to shift some of my stubborn belly fat which is showing signs of going nowhere despite what I do.
  • Work harder on my trainer sessions, hey I gotta get my moneys worth!
  • Stick to my diet, ignore my PMS cravings. I'll only regret it later!
  • Research into christmas food that isn't to stressful on the figure and plan for a healthy christmas.
I currently weigh 186lbs
At 5'9" that needs to come down somewhat.
My BMI is 27.4 and I'd like it to be around 20.

Hope you're all doing good

Hmm.

Awwrite, let's check in.

Last Week's Goals
-Actually, you know, head to the gym. More than once this week, too, slackerpants.
Nope. Didn't go once. Hell week...or should I say two weeks...

-Make the seven slices of pie that I got from my aunt (not all mine) last throughout the week
I did better than this, actually. I only had one piece of pie, and I ended up throwing most of it out! And my boss gave me a huge grab-bag thing of healthier desserts :D

-Only drink copious amounts of coffee when needed
I did okay on this. White zombies don't do it like they used to, I guess...

-Go to bed at or around midnight (give or take a half hour both ways) all week, even with my Journalism School application due on Friday
I did this, except for on Sunday night (assignment due the next day) and Thursday night (*points to silly application*), and I went to bed at 1a.m. both days.

-Walk around as much as possible at work (15-16 hours this week! Compared with my usual 5, that's a lot!)
This went really well, mainly because of yesterday (4 parties, two of which I helped out with for the first time!). My feet were killing me, but I love my job. And I jogged from Copp's (grocery store literally feet away from work) to work!!

-Go to church on Sunday morning...somewhere

Nope. Slept instead, haha.

This Week!
-make it to the gym this time...
-pack lunch for Monday, Wednesday and Thursday (not Tuesday because I'm going home for the day at 11:50a.m., and not Friday because I work...and get healthier food than I have at home, whoops)
-do my fair share of shoveling on Tuesday night (6-8 inches of snow expected...hooray...)
-start studying for finals! they're already next week for me...eek!!
-try to stay somewhat healthy while Christmas shopping
Good luck to you all! I'm always inspired by your stories.

My hamstring isn't hurting much anymore, and it really does feel okay to run slowly on it, but my daughter pointed out last night--it is bruised! Sheesh! Guess I'll just see how things go this week.

STERN note to self: Yes, I'm going to try running/walking in the Rocket City Marathon next Saturday. HOWEVER, I will drop out if my hamstring tweaks on me again.

current weight: 122 lbs. Holding steady.

Oh, I found out about another 50K trail run in Alabama. It's in February. I think I am going to register for it and have it as a backup or secondary plan to the Mountain Mist-- if I DNF because of not making the cut off times, sickness/injury, weather/race cancellation, or other worse case scerarios. http://www.blackwarrior50k.com/
